Lives on the line :High cost of chicken

"We eat a lot of it—89 pounds per person each year. Chicken is America’s most popular meat. From nuggets to sandwiches to wings, poultry is a $50-billion industry.

But how does all that chicken reach your plate? It’s not easy to turn a live bird into a bucket of buffalo wings. In fact, it takes a lot of work: hanging, cutting, trimming.

We’ll show you what the poultry industry doesn’t want you to see, and tell you exactly what you can do to help workers in their struggle."

Poultry companies are denying their workers bathroom breaks. @ Oxfarm America

"Last fall, Oxfam released our report, Lives on the Line, and an immersive web site to share stories, photos and videos from US poultry workers—women and men who want you to understand what’s wrong with the industry and how you can help. We’ve been pressing hard since then: using our power as consumers to demand better working conditions from companies, encouraging federal agencies to expand their efforts, engaging with companies, filing shareholder resolutions—and more."

Check out love 146 (help end human traficking)

"“We found ourselves standing shoulder to shoulder with predators in a small room, looking at little girls through a pane of glass. All of the girls wore red dresses with a number pinned to their dress for identification.

They sat, blankly watching cartoons on TV. They were vacant, shells of what a child should be. There was no light in their eyes, no life left. Their light had been taken from them. These children…raped each night… seven, ten, fifteen times every night. They were so young. Thirteen, eleven… it was hard to tell. Sorrow covered their faces with nothingness.

Except one girl. One girl who wouldn’t watch the cartoons. Her number was 146. She was looking beyond the glass. She was staring out at us with a piercing gaze. There was still fight left in her eyes. There was still life left in this girl….

All of these emotions begin to wreck you. Break you. It is agony. It is aching. It is grief. It is sorrow.

The reaction is intuitive, instinctive. It is visceral. It releases a wailing cry inside of you. It elicits gut-level indignation. It is unbearable. I remember wanting to break through the glass. To take her away from that place. To scoop up as many of them as I could into my arms. To take all of them away. I wanted to break through the glass to tell her to keep fighting. To not give up. To tell her that we were coming for her….

Because we went in as part of an ongoing undercover investigation on this particular brothel, we were unable to immediately respond. Evidence had to be collected in order to bring about a raid and eventually justice on those running the brothel. It is an immensely difficult problem when an immediate response cannot address an emergency. Some time later, there was a raid on this brothel and children were rescued. But the girl who wore #146 was no longer there. We do not know what happened to her, but we will never forget her. She changed the course of all of our lives.”

Imperfect: Redefining Beauty in Produce

"Ugly is Beautiful!

Across the country, ugly produce (or as we like to say, “cosmetically-challenged produce”) is being treated like a second-class citizen.  Every year six billion pounds of fruits and vegetables go to waste on farms across the U.S. just for looking a little different from other produce.  Instead of going to feed people, all that wasted produce is sitting in landfills, where it releases methane gas into the atmosphere.

We think it’s ridiculous that so much delicious produce is going to waste, and so we are setting out to change that.  We’re launching a new venture called Imperfect that gives consumers the chance to buy delicious, wonky-looking produce at a discount.  So instead of going to waste, all those odd-looking fruits and vegetables will be helping Americans eat healthier, at a price they can afford.

Farmers benefit because they get extra income from produce that previously went to waste.  As a customer, you benefit by getting produce at a much lower cost than you could at a grocery store.  And the environment benefits because of reduced methane emissions.  And in light of the on-going drought in California, we're also proud that every pound of produce we sell prevents the 25-50 gallons of water it takes to grow a pound of produce from being wasted.  "

Ivory Coast primates being wiped out because of world demand for chocolate @ Wildlife Extra

"The Ivory Coast is the world's largest producer of cocoa beans, the main ingredient in chocolate, which represents more than one-third of the available supply.
There is a growing worldwide demand for chocolate and Ivory Coast produced a record 1.7 million metric tons of cocoa last year.
news/Cocoa_plant
Many of the older, legal cocoa plantations in the country have been blighted by disease or are not producing at earlier levels as previously, which has led some growers moving on to create new farms.  Migrants from outside the country have moved into Ivory Coast and have turned to farming to survive."

What is the G lish Foundation?

G-lish collects plastic rubbish and scrap African cloth and trains youth and women to transform those materials into twine. Skilled basket weavers weave the plastic and cloth twine into baskets, home-wares and art work using traditional weaving methods—thus preserving cultural heritage while helping alleviate poverty and tackling entrenched and overlooked environmental waste problems. We won a SEED Initiative award for sustainable social enterprise in 2010, one of 30 awarded globally.

Since 2010 G-lish Foundation has achieved the following impacts:

Environmental Impact
Prevented 358, 600 drinking water plastic bags from being burned and from entering rivers and farming soil by recycling them into high value products;
Because we pay producers by the 200 pieces of twine cut and twisted, and we record every payment on paper and in an Excel spreadsheet, and because 1 plastic bag = 1 twine, it's simple to tally how many plastic bags have been used since 2010 and easy to track this impact;
Prevented 2, 250 yards of waste cloth from being burned or thrown into rivers;
= Over 3 metric tonnes of recycled waste materials;

11 Models Who Shattered The Fashion Industry's Definition of Beauty in 2014

"e fashion industry is notoriously homogenous — at New York Fashion Week in February, more than three-quarters of the models were white. But fashion's diversity problem extends beyond just race. The runways focus on one strict standard of beauty, marginalizing models left and right because of unique characteristics.

But each year, more models break through to represent those who fall outside fashion's provincial standards of beauty. That inclusion, of course, is sometimes motivated by a cynical tokenism, as fashion brands hire a notable "unconventional" model for the brief flash of publicity. Vogue Italia's all-black issue in July 2008, for example, was an attention-getting move that didn't do much to shift the white standard. "It didn't bear fruit," George Brown of RED Model Management said back then.

But the tide is slowly shifting, as the models below prove. The more covers they book and the more ads they star in, the more their beauty won't be dismissed as a novelty but as an agent of change and awareness. From gender identities to waist size, perceived disabilities to rare medical conditions, the traits that distinguish these models tell beautiful stories — and help brands tell theirs.

Meet the models who shattered convention in 2014."

Chakra oppression/oppression of things we do that are natural by WLI (updated April 2015)

The compassion to Chakras is just to have some kind o visual to compare this to. What society says and how it tries to oppress and control natural urges and why THEY are wrong. SO many normal things that society,media and the medical field tells us is wrong.They link to either categories at my sites, my blog posts and sometimes outside sources.

We are controlled by words/ideas such as :
"willpower,"
"being/be in control of your own body by NOT eating too much, not having sex too much, having sex ENOUGH,etc." - even though we WERE until these people tried telling us we were not. They tell us this to do the opposite, so THEY can be in control of our body.

Society  wants to mold us/you and control our bodies, thoughts and feelings. They want to banish out natural instincts and mold us into something that is all the same.

Many times, this is the cause to our depression, anxiety,etc. in which they conveniently provide pills,therapy and medications for us.
Churches try to recruit us, doctors try to give us meds to make us feel better,and the magazines and media try to tell us to obey them and get help for something we shouldn't need help with anyway. We get depressed because we are told what to eat, how may times a day to eat, how many times a day to have sex, how to have sex, how to feel, which feelings are "Validated" by society and what ways are wrong and which ways we eat, have feelings, and have sex are socially "acceptable"

      What gluttony really means...

      Gluttony is described as  consuming something in excess.

      People use this to justify fat-shaming and their Fatphobia.
      People who state fat people are living their life in a sin of gluttony have no problem walking down the street and denying food to the homeless, deny giving money to the homeless, deny giving a drink to the homeless, have no problem gambling, have no problem buying clothes they do not need while others have none, etc.

      ‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." (BibleGateway)

      Gluttony simply means do not consume WHILE denying others. Like a king whose people needed food while he lay in gold. He just wanted money and food to himself EVEN Though he wasn't going to eat it all, or use all of his money. He wanted to laugh is the face of others, while they saw him throw away things they desperately needed.This doesn't mean some fat dude eating a burger. This means going to the store and buying 500 dollar Gucci dresses while refusing to donate money or clothes to people in need.This DOES mean just throwing food away while others are going without (so,see fat people do not partake in gluttony as eat ALL of the food they are given, right?) This means that fat dude eating a burger in front of a homeless guy and DENYING him food (not even sharing half of it) just because he's an ahole.

      If you wanna be a douche and continue to think all fat people are gluttons and are going to hell, how many times have you had food on a dish and just throw it away, or how many times have you ate too much at thanksgiving.

      Stop being a douchebag.

      Oh, and this can also apply to sex(having sex in excess and not being responsible or doing anything else)... let's see what people have to say about gluttony then...

      It only applies if something is denied to others, someone is an ahole about having it and wants more of it to brag to people who do not have it, or it takes over your life... leading to another deadly sin,Sloth.

      Who is Jason Brown (ex-footballer/farmer)

      "Jason W. Brown (born May 5, 1983 in Henderson, North Carolina) is a former American football center. He played college football at North Carolina and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Despite earning a starting position for the Ravens and later earning a $37 million five-year contract with the St. Louis Rams in free agency, Brown walked away mid-contract to pursue his convictions to farm and reduce poverty in his native rural Louisburg, North Carolina. Some would dispute this assertion since the last NFL transaction recorded for Brown was his release by the Rams on March 12, 2012, although shortly afterward he received interest from and/or made free agent visits to the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens"
      After Football
      Brown chose to walk away from football in 2012 at the age of 29 to become a farmer in Louisburg, North Carolina. He maintains a 1,000-acre farm where he grows produce such as sweet potatoes and cucumbers. He donates these crops to local food pantries, having given away over 46,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and 10,000 pounds of cucumbers. Brown began learning about farming practices in 2012 by watching YouTube videos
