"The word, race, literally denotes a species or sub classification of a species. Human beings are one single species - homo sapiens. Contrary to common belief, humans are not composed of different races. The false notion of 'human races' is a psuedo-scientific concept born of the misapplication of this term. In large measure, scientists and others who know the true meaning of the word race are to blame for either directly perpetuating the myth of human races, or not clarifying that humans are one species.

The notion of any group of people constituting a 'pure race' is ludicrous. It is a confirmed scientific fact that all human beings proceeded from the same earthly mother and father. For some time, scientists have known about the parallel relationship between the development of human languages and the emergence of diverse ethnic groups throughout the world. This strong relationship between language and ethnicity gave rise to a field known as Ethno linguistics, derived from anthropological linguistics. These truths were revealed in the Quran 1400 years ago, long before such questions were considered important and long before man had the means to research such questions."

But, the new sexual frontier is just as problematic as the old one and subscribes to a system of sexual archetypes that are not only conservative but detrimental to PoC. Watching the movie brought back hella memories of my own excursion into kink and my experiences with this frontier. (Side note: Yes, I did go to see the movie in theaters. But, I bought a ticket for Selma and snuck into Fifty because I have “not one dime” for basic shit.) Sweating like Beck when Kanye approached the stage at the Grammy’s, I nervously walked into my first kink gathering. Within thirty minutes of my arrival, I had been called ‘chocolate’ twice. Within two hours of my arrival, a man asked if he could see my “big black donk”. I responded by telling him that I had too much ass for his “small white dick” and then I left. (Yes, that clapback game is on fleek.)"

I wish these were just terrible one-off experiences. But as an actor myself, I've been asked numerous times to "black it up" or "tap into your diva" at auditions. What's the big deal? Why isn't it OK to cast people of color as stereotypical side characters? While some might argue it's just entertainment, media shapes how we see the world and how we see ourselves. Diverse representations of people from all walks of life promotes tolerance and understanding, and it improves the self-esteem of children and people of color.

Race, Evolution and behavior

"Race, Evolution, and Behavior: A Life History Perspective is a controversial book (first unabridged edition 1995, third unabridged edition 2000) written by J. Philippe Rushton. He served as a professor of psychology at the University of Western Ontario and, until his death from cancer on October 2, 2012, the head of the Pioneer Fund.

Rushton argues that race is a valid biological concept and that racial differences frequently arrange in a continuum across 60 different behavioral and anatomical variables, with Mongoloids (Orientals, East Asians) at one end of the continuum, Negroids (blacks, Africans) at the opposite extreme, and Caucasoids ( Europeans,Middle Easterners) in the middle.


The book was generally received negatively, its methodology and conclusions being criticized by many experts. The aggressive marketing strategy also received a lot of criticism. The book received positive reviews by some researchers, many of whom were personally associated with Rushton and with the Pioneer Fund which funded much of Rushton's research The book has been examined as an example of Pioneer's funding of "scientific racist" research while psychologist Michael Howe has identified the book as part of a movement, begun in the 1990s, to promote a racial agenda in social policy."(Wikipedia)

The Color of Crime by New Century Foundation

"The Color of Crime is a publication by Jared Taylor, describing race differences in criminal offending in the United States.[8] The study argues that African Americans and Hispanics are disproportionately overrepresented among criminal offenders, while Asian Americans are underrepresented. The publication also says that there is more Black-on-White interracial crime than there is White-on-Black crime, and that contrary to popular belief, Blacks commit more white-collar crime than do Whites.

The publication also claims that the police are not biased against Blacks or other ethnic groups. The publication concludes by saying that research into race differences in criminal behavior is a worthwhile pursuit and suggests that immigration policy consider these differences.

According to their findings, of the approximately 1.7 million interracial crimes committed in the U.S. each year, 90% are committed by blacks against whites.[9] The publication argues that, contrary to public belief, Blacks are more likely than Whites to commit hate crimes.

The publication has been mentioned on C-SPAN.[9] Glenn Spencer, an anti-immigrant activist, promoted it on his website.[10] In The new white nationalism in America: its challenge to integration (Cambridge University Press, 2002), Carol Miller Swain observed that the New Century Foundation faxed conclusions from the publication to major US newspapers, and that its stated purpose was to support the practice of racial profiling" (Wikipedia)

The Bell Curve

"The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life is a 1994 book by American psychologist Richard J. Herrnstein (who died before the book was released) and American political scientist Charles Murray. Its central argument is that human intelligence is substantially influenced by both inherited and environmental factors and is a better predictor of many personal dynamics, including financial income, job performance, chance of unwanted pregnancy, and involvement in crime than are an individual's parental socioeconomic status, or education level. The book also argues that those with high intelligence, the "cognitive elite", are becoming separated from those of average and below-average intelligence, and that this is a dangerous social trend with the United States moving toward a more divided society similar to that in Latin America.


The book was controversial, especially where the authors wrote about racial differences in intelligence and discussed the implications of those differences. The authors were reported throughout the popular press as arguing that these IQ differences are genetic. They wrote in chapter 13: "It seems highly likely to us that both genes and the environment have something to do with racial differences." The introduction to the chapter more cautiously states, "The debate about whether and how much genes and environment have to do with ethnic differences remains unresolved."

The book's title comes from the bell-shaped normal distribution of intelligence quotient (IQ) scores in a population.
