Clubbercise

"The Clubbercise™ concept was dreamt up by three friends, Claire, Laura and Sarah, who all HATE the gym but LOVE to dance.
Co-Founder Claire Burlison Green explains:

"Over the years we tried various dance fitness classes but couldn't find one that played the type of music we really wanted to hear - the kind of tracks that keep you glued to the dancefloor on a night out.

We don't get to go clubbing as often as we used to due to work and family commitments and we also wanted a fun way to keep fit, so we decided to try and combine all of the highs of a night out with a healthy workout.

Introducing disco lights to create a nightclub atmosphere seemed obvious rather than teaching the classes in a brightly lit room, people feel a lot less self-conscious in the dark and can really let go (no booze required!).

We created a series of easy-to-follow aerobics based routines and ran trial classes to test the format. Glow sticks were originally introduced just as a bit of fun for the 90's bit but people didn't want to put them down and now they're incorporated into all of the routines. The bonus is that they also provide a really good arm workout!

The feedback since we launched has been overwhelmingly positive, we're currently getting about 100 messages a week from people who want Clubbercise classes in their area so we'll be training new instructors across the UK throughout the year.

We're also doing our bit for charity. Our clubbers drink loads of water at every class and sadly some of the poorest people on the planet don't have the luxury of clean drinking water so every time a new Clubbercise instructor signs-up we donate to Oxfam to help them provide enough water for 10 people in need."
