Hen Heaven 'Sanctuary' in Sussex informs its readers that the eggs they sell are suitable for vegans, since they are '100% cruelty free'. What's more, they suggest that perpetuating the demand for animal 'products' will ultimately save nonhumans from slaughter--a nonsense, since increased demand for animal 'products' results in more nonhumans being bred for the purpose of exploitation. They distinguish between those 'vegans' who 'want to avoid cruelty' and those who 'avoid all animal products', implying that it is possible to use animals without causing them harm.
We all know that there's no 'humane' way to deny any sentient being the basic right not to be used as a resource. As long as vegans support welfare reforms, they are sending out the message that it's okay to exploit animals once we treat them well while we do so. This goes against against the moral imperative that is at the heart of veganism.
It is our understanding that Hen Heaven has been contacted by a number of vegans and yet refuses to respond to requests to remove this misrepresentation and confusion from its site."
