Who is Viktoria Modesta, bionic pop star?

"Viktoria Modesta is an independant multimedia performance artist, bionic girl, DJ and who’s sole mission is to  promote individualism and futuristic image through art.

Born in USSR in 1987 into a troublesome childhood and health struggles she escaped to London at the tender age of 12. Here amongst the diverse underground culture she embraced the extremities of her life, finally a place where you can be anybody you desire. Mixing with iconic club and fashion personalities from early teens it was only a matter of time until Viktoria carved out her own niche. A high school dropout, a misfit on all levels she diverted her focus, drive and self education into music, modelling and art direction.

There was an obstacle, her poor health and 15 operations at an early age called for a radical decision to continue Viktoria’s dream of transcending her background. Not accepting the role of a victim as placed by the people around her she had a voluntary amputation at the age of 20 which transpired to be a brand new life full of experimentation, self expression and avante grade vision.

Viktoria’s early modelling work was with alternative clothing and club brands as well as some personal projects challenging views such as her nominated nude portrait by JAMES STROUD at The National Portrait Gallery. A vision for MODESTA was forming at this point with her piecing together the identity she has longed for encompassing music production, writing, styling and exploring the limits of her body.

She picked up her music school roots shortly after the operation and has continuously worked on creating her sound with performances at fashion and club events all over internationally such as LOVEBOX, Harpers Bazaar (Brazil), Instyle (Russia), Milan Fashion Week. Her character and eccentricity attracted many legendary artists to work with her such as Ellen Von Unwerth, Bettina Rheims and Vivienne Westwood as well as work with friends like Paloma Faith’s and Peaches appearing in their music videos.

Viktoria's cutting edge style and work with prosthetic designer at The Alternative Limb Project has been pushing the boundaries of socially acceptable image in press. Her media presence has been strong within UK press with features in iD, Wonderland, Grazia UK (and Italy), LOOK, Notion, The Times, Music Week, PRS Magazine, and Bizarre Magazine ( 4 covers ) amongst many international lifestyle and fashion blogs.

The key moment in Viktoria’s life and her self exploration was her performance in the PARALYMPIC CLOSING CEREMONY directed by Kim Gavin. It was broadcasted LIVE to over a billion viewers worldwide. Viktoria's starring role as the enchanting Snow Queen wearing a Swarovski prosthetic leg & performing with the main skating cast from Dancing On Ice has fuelled her mission of establishing new ideals in the media concerning sexuality and disability.  Passionate of all things ‘superhuman’. Last year she did a talk at the Wellcome Trust Museum and is working on setting up a support organisation promoting modern views. "
