"Sleep No More is the most recent incarnation of an immersive, site-specific, interactive work of theatre created by British theatre company Punchdrunk, based on Punchdrunk's original 2003 London production, their 2009 collaboration with Boston's American Repertory Theatre, and William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The company reinvented Sleep No More in a co-production with Emursive, and began performances on March 7, 2011.
The production takes place at a block of warehouses in Manhattan, which the company transformed into a so-called "abandoned" hotel called the McKittrick Hotel, which the Hotel's website claims has been recently "restored." Sleep No More won the 2011 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and won Punchdrunk special citations at the 2011 Obie Awards for design and choreography. The 2011-2012 production is an expansion upon both prior productions of Sleep No More, in 2003 at the Beaufoy Building in London, and in 2009 at the Old Lincoln School in Brookline, Massachusetts."
