Does Drinking Lemon Juice Help You Lose Weight?

"Serving Tips and Suggestions
Dilute lemon juice in water before drinking, rather than drinking it straight. Lemon juice is highly acidic, and continued exposure to acidic foods and beverages can erode your tooth enamel. Another bonus -- adding lemon juice to water dilutes its sour taste, so it's also easier on your taste buds. Lemon water is less acidic but still has some potential to damage enamel, so keep those pearly whites safe by drinking it through a straw. If plain lemon water gets monotonous, add variety by steeping your water with fresh herbs, like mint, basil or cilantro.
Maintaining Perspective
Lemon juice definitely has a place in a weight-loss diet, so you should feel free to use it to flavor foods and beverages. But it's no weight-loss cure, writes nutrition expert Toby Amidor on the Food Network's Healthy Eats blog. Watch out for strict diets that rely heavily on lemon juice, like cleanses or detox diets. These diets often claim they'll help you lose weight fast, but they are not effective for long-term fat loss and are associated with harmful side effects. One popular weight loss cleanse, which recommends consuming a mixture of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper for 10 days or longer, lacks several essential nutrients and can cause dehydration, explains Harvard Medical School."
