So you decided to learn how to bellydance? Cool...

Now, let's talk a bit about this dance form and what it takes to actually "master" it.

Whether you decided to belly dance for fun, fitness, weight loss or to become a professional bellydancer, the start point is always the same. You start by taking some basic classes to learn the basic technique and advanced it later by learning some combinations and choreographies.

Here are few things to keep in mind when you are new to this art:

- There are many styles of belly dance. Make sure to decide what you like first or if you have no idea what style suits you best, make sure to try different classes and instructors until your find your style

- If you are learning this art for fitness and weight loss, make sure to find a class that would provide a good workout. This website has a section that focuses on cardio bellydance workouts, ab workouts and other workouts that would help in your journey to weight loss

- When learning to belly dance, there are many elements involved: foot work, hip work and arm work. Make  sure to start with the foot work first. Learn the basic steps and then add the hip work. Once you get those two together, add the arm frames.

- You will get frustrated learning this dance as a beginner. Yes you will BUT that's also the fun part: the challenge! Don't quit too early, practice is key. However, without having fun, you will never learn this art. So put on your smile before your hip scarf and check your pride at the door :)

- Don't bellydance for the wrong reasons! Yes, many chose this dance form for the seduction factor or costumes... etc. This is a hard dance to master. It requires hard work and dedication along with a lot of fun and an open mind. So, take it seriously to learn it at its best. The costumes follow and the only person you need to seduce is yourself

- Never believe anyone who tells you there is only one way to do any move! There is never one way to move. Dance is a personal expression that comes from within. What we learn is the body mechanic, not the dance.

- Most importantly, please remember to have a great time, laugh at yourself when you mess up and don't give up! Challenge is a beautiful thing. If bellydancing was easy, everyone would be a bellydancer"
