You chose to be Offended

"Taking offense to something was just always a part of our lives. Especially us, Gen Y’s.. I remember kids saying “Back off or I’ll knock you the fuckk out” in like 5th grade!! Lol, now I’m not qualified to say this, but I have a pretty good idea that other generations didn’t talk like that until they were much older or maybe even ever?.. But then again, we’re Gen Y’s and we simply don’t have time for nonsense. Do whatcha gotta do! Even if it means pulling the old fashion Hey Arnold “I’M CRAZY” stunt to let your Bully know what’s really good....

There’s a MUCH more healthier and sane approach to handling offense; and trust me I know it’s a bitch.. Especially when we learned how to fluently cuss out individuals that bothered us before we were taught how to write in cursive. Let’s think about this for a second. What’s the reason why ANYONE would get offended? Answer is… Insecurity.

Example: Someone that you just can’t stand laughs and calls you a “Dumbass” for slipping on ice. You can do three SAFE options to show that you’re SECURE and CONFIDENT.

1)Laugh it off and say “Yeahh that was totally a dumb move on my part.” Humility is healthy folks.

2) Dish back! Say “Oh okay Princess, you’ve never slipped on ice before?!"
3) Be an adult. What do I mean? I mean extend your hand, offer your respect and talk to this person face to face like an adult. Elliot does a tremendous job explaining this.

4) Good ol’ fashion Ignoring will work. Now, ONLY ignore if you ABSOLUTELY mastered the “Art of Apathy” and that you know you can continue taking insults from this person without any problem. However, I do not recommend ignoring someone if they are bothering you. If you really can’t laugh at life, learn to be your own witty person while dishing comebacks, or talk to a person face to face.. Then please please please tell an adult this person is bothering you. Never bottle emotions nor become violent. We hear and see horrific stories on the news all the time about kids that went insane.

BE RESPONSIBLE. USE YOUR HEAD.

This doesn’t dismiss or excuse people to be rude. Because:

1) No one likes an Asshole

2) You can get seriously hurt if you just go around ridiculing people and think to yourself “Oh well hey, you chose to be offended.” If you haven’t noticed not everyone exactly has a sense of humor."
