Homemade Obestrim

"Arexis Garcinia Rx: Proprietary formula that is suggested to coat the stomach lining to accelerate satiety and feelings of fullness, which helps to trick the brain into thinking it’s full. No evidence is presented to support these claims and no information is given to indicate what this formula contains!!!
Green Tea Extract: Extract that is derived from green tea leaves and said to be a potent source of antioxidants. It’s the catechins (GTC) that are considered to be beneficial for health and have weight loss properties. Does contain some caffeine and in high dosages may cause side effects in sensitive individuals.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_tea_extract

1,3 Dimethylamylamine: Extracted from geranium and acts as a stimulant, also known as DMAA. Found to increase energy levels, maintain alertness and can cause euphoric sensations. Has been a prohibited substance in WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) tested sports since 2010 and now under the watchful eye of the FDA.

Garcinia Cambogia Extract: Found in Asia and parts of Asia it looks similar to a tiny pumpkin and is a small fruit. Suggested to suppress appetite and promote increased fat burning thanks to it containing Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA). A study in 1998 has refuted the role of this herb to facilitate weight loss.
Source: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=188147

L-Carnitine: A popular ingredient that is in many supplements as it’s important for transporting fatty acids so they can be metabolised for energy. It’s been suggested that greater fat release can help to burn more fats. The evidence supporting weight loss is weak though.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnitine

Semnostachya Menglaensis: A rare plant indigenous to Mengla in the tropical rainforest in the south of Yunnan province, China. Suggested to boost metabolism and inhibit appetite but there is little known about this ingredient and even less clinical evidence that it works!
Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16277417

Lotus Leaf Extract: Grows in tropical regions of Asia and the Middle East and used for medicine for many centuries. Contains flavonoids and tannins, which are powerful antioxidants thought to promote weight loss and health. Recent research that combined Lotus Leaf with L-Carnitine may lead to fat loss through increased lipolysis and by encouraging fat cells to release more fat.
Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20687953

Konjac Root Fiber: Also known as glucomannan, this water soluble fibre can absorb many times its weight in water to help swell in your stomach. This can act to help you feel fuller, reducing appetite and so decrease food intake. There are potential side effects though and consumers should ensure they are well hydrated. There are studies that show positive weight loss results but require sufficient amount in to order to work.

Caralluma Frimbriata: Ancient plant commonly found in India that has been suggested to help control appetite. One small study has shown modest appetite suppressant qualities after taking 1 gram of this ingredient for 2 months. However, there is no indication of how much is included in Obestrim, but VERY UNLIKELY it contains this amount!

The Fix for Cellulite, Stress Damage, More Muscle Tone and Lose Skin! by Terry Givens @ Reset Your Body

"- Cellulite is a very hard condition to target and remove.
– Chemicals releases by stress (cortisol and norepinephrine etc) build up in the body over the years doing toxic harm.
– The thin layer of fat on top of your muscles covers up the precious muscle tone many athletes seek
Structure of Skin
How do you effectively target those conditions? Working out harder? Eating cleaner? Surgery. No.
Fasting/Cleansing is virtually the only way to eliminate these conditions!

Calories I eat each meal following 1200 calories by WLI

I always use a calorie tracker because this is not something a person can do alone if they want to lose weight.

I eat more on days I exercise or are more active. I try to be active all the time though even if that means dancing in place or while I'm sitting down, but some days I do not exercise (there is a difference) I want to maintain my weight.

Why Can't I Eat Less Than 1,200/1800 on My Diet? by Lizzie Fuhr

"The principle behind weight loss is simple: you either have to burn more or eat fewer calories. To lose weight, you need to create an energy (or calorie) deficit by eating fewer calories, increasing the number of calories you burn through physical activity, or both. Typically, what is recommended as the safest method is a combination of eating fewer calories and burning calories through physical activity. While you do report that you are dieting and counting calories, you do not mention that you are doing physical activity and exercise, which, as mentioned above, is so important in the safe weight-loss equation.

My junk food box by WLI

*But still healthy. ALWAYS eat organic whole food food

I like to put in whole grain organic pasta noodles, organic candies, Enjoy Life semi-chocolate chips, Earth Balance products, etc. This way they are out of the way of the foods I eat daily so I am not tempted, but still have them on stock for the weekend.

How I store my grains and beans by WLI

1. In a jar.
The grains or beans I plan to use before the others I bought in bulk I keep in jars.

2.In Tupperware containers
The cooked beans and grains I keep in a Tupperware container.

3. The grains and (some) beans (that have the same shaped -or similar-packaging) I keep in a Bob's Red Mill box. You don't have to eat that brand, but I love them! If you don't just get a similar box, or buy and give to a food shelter and keep the box.

Pay attention when tracking calories!!! by WLI

Let's use a Bolthouse Farms drink as an example (I am currently drinking one and I just now discovered this) Now, if I tractl 16 oz, or 2 servings of 8 oz, that brings my caloric intake to 240. But, 15.2 oz = 247 calories.

1) I am allowed more calories than I have been tracking=more yummy food

2) I am putting my body into negative calorie mode and my body is not getting the calories it needs to function..

3) It may prevent weight loss goals.

So, to find out the correct number you may need to do some math,or just make your you track the correct amount of oz and the correct amount of servings.Just use division between the total amount of calories and how many oz (I think, that's what I have been doing, if I am wrong let me know)

Ways to be more active in a sedentary / low active lifestyle by WLI

This isn't to lose weight, but more of a way to keep your body active as a sedentary lifestyle is bad.

1. Fidget
I fidget around all day.

2. Dance while sitting down
Move your arms chest, legs, head, torso around to stay active.

3. Dance in one place while standing up
Move your arms chest, legs, head, torso around to stay active.

4. Walk in one place

5. Move legs and arms while sitting down.
I do little bicycling moves with my legs, and I raise my arms and put them down.

5.Exercise 30 minutes a day

6. Do 10 minute exercises each 1 or 2 hours in addiction to all the other activities listed above and below.

7. Power walk in place while watching tv.

8. Move around while typing (sitting down or standing up)

Whole Food calories on index cards and tabs - Nutrition Cards - WLI

I made nutrition cards so I can see and plan out how many calories each food it.

1. I took index cards, I used white, but colored may be better.
2. I wrote all the fruits and veggies using the rainbow system.
3. I then wrote out the service size and calorie count for each food in the grains, nuts, seeds, protein and dairy replacement food groups (I'm vegan, cows produce milk for THEIR young, not us). I also color coded them as well.
4. I separated each group with tabs taped to the top of the first card of each set.
5. I could write about 4-6 different foods on each card (I used both back and front)

Why working out and being muscular or thin doesn't always = healthy by WLI

  1. Eating unhealthy, but watching calories is vanity, not health [update:] so don't dictate how someone else eats

How dangerous IS the food you eat...

GMOs, Processed/ refined, Fast Foods,etc @ Chunkealthy Life

The Men Who Made Us Fat & The Men Who Made Us Thin - talks about how you can be thin and unhealthy by what you eat.

just because you are thin or muscular does not mean you can not get fatty liver disease, diabetes, etc. They are not the "fat persons'" disease. They are not obesity related diseases, but diseases brought on by food "like" products people consume. These diseases are not brought on by sugar, but the fact that table sugar is so processed and bleached that it causes cancer. These chemical addictives we eat cause cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes but yet it is ignored because the person is not fat.

It has been proven time and time again that it is NOT weight, but quality of food, not quantity. Also living a sedentary lifestyle is very dangerous so just because a person eats withing his or her calorie range and is thin does not mean he or she is healthy because they are thin.

Food groups, nutrition, and what your body needs - just because you work off calories doesn't mean your body is getting these vitamins and minerals; not if you don't eat healthy. Eating McDonalds and working it off is not healthy and does not mean you are healthy. The burger is still damaging your organs.

What does.... mean? - what does that stuff on food packages mean

If you eat butter, processed candy, etc you can not say you are healthy just because you burn off all those calories you consumed enough to be thin or muscular.
Remember, use substitutions for butter, sugar ,vegetable oil, etc.

The best way to eat healthy is to go vegan (which is proven to be the healthiest way of eating) and contribute to your heath and to animal rights and in some cases, even human rights.

What foods I stay away from by WLI

All of these include organic, healthy alternative as well. I let myself have some once in a while, but when I do it is a little bit and not every night. I'll allow myself some once in a great while.Maybe once a month. Not because they are unhealthy, or bad for me,but because they are very tempting and taste so delicious I love eating them. I only eat organic, whole foods but even though the "junk" food isn't unhealthy it does cause me to gain weight (which is okay on others, but I want to lose weight). Eating these yummy "junk" foods each day is not okay as it is getting in the way of my weight loss goals. I don't see anything wrong with any of these (as long as you are eating the healthy versions of them (organic or homemade soda, natural sugars like Maple Syrup, etc) but if you are trying to lose weight they can be trouble!

7 Condiment Swaps That Help You Lose

"Let’s face it: Food is only as healthy as the extras we dump on top of it. A nutritious mealcan quickly take a turn for the calorie-laden if we’re too liberal with our condiments—but who wants to deny their taste buds the joys of special sauce? These smart swaps cut down the calories, sodium, and fat common condiments pack, without sacrificing flavor. In fact, you might even like them better"

HGC Diet vs Bariatric surgery

Both are pretty much glorified anorexia, but I guess it's okay if doctors can benefit from it, right? In my opinion, HCG diet is just better because you can stop at any time, neither are healthy or fun and are unhealthy tools to reach an ideal set by both the beauty industry and medical field.

What is it?  Ways to lose weight.

Health complications: Mineral and Vitamin deficiencies, hair loss, creation of eating disorder mindset, stomach distress, heart problems, organ problems/failures, etc.

However with HCG you need to do your own research, but there are places and support groups that will help you. HCG has not been approved, but many people feel it is because it takes away from the profits of Bariatric Surgery. HCG can be dangerous if a person is not careful and does not take good care of themselves and does not make sure he or she is getting all necessary vitamins and mineral. Similarly, the same can be said for Bariatric surgery as well. The difference is a person goes through hell and can not change his or her mind after the surgery;whereas, with the HCG diet he or she can just stop taking the drops and stop the diet. It seems no different than cutting someone open and removing half his or her stomach. You will not be getting nutrients from food so it may be time consuming figuring out all the vitamins and mineral and amounts you need, but there are support groups. You will lose weight fast, but you will  lose weight fast if you get surgery.

How does it work?  HCG limits your calorie intake through drops that you inject into your body. Bariatric surgery is a surgical procedure that limits stomach expansion and food intake.

How many calories are you allowed? When you first begin you are allowed around 500 calories a day. As you advance you are allowed more. People make a huge deal about this, but if you have surgery you will not be eating much more than you would on the HCG diet. After a while you can up your intake.

The difference really is the fact that if you change your mind, or experience problems you can stop the HCG diet, with surgery you can't and it is permanent.

Both are silly and dangerous. Diet and exercise is the best way to lose weight. Or, you could just accept and learn to love your body. Surgery is just another form of body shaming and a way for doctors to make moneybased on a myth that a certain body size can not be healthy.

Both are pretty much glorified anorexia, but I guess it's okay if doctors can benefit from it, right? In my opinion, HCG is just better because you can stop at any time, neither are healthy or fun and are unhealthy tools to reach an ideal set by both the beauty industry and medical field.

L-Glutamine Changes Gut Bacteria Leading To Weight Loss! by Kai "missfit"

"L-Glutamine supplementation promotes a positive nitrogen balance and prevents the loss of muscle. Recent studies have shown that taking just 2 grams of L-Glutamine can increase growth hormone levels by 400%.
The 30g dose studied was associated with a significant reduction in the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes in obese and overweight people.

"The finding that L-glutamine promotes changes in the gut microbiota composition provides support for the importance of some nutrients in modulating the intestinal bacterial profile," wrote the researchers in Nutrition . "These changes resembled the weight loss programs established in the literature."
Gut health and obesity

The study adds to emerging body of science supporting the effects of gut microflora on metabolic factors and obesity. The connection between gut microbiota and energy homeostasis and inflammation and its role in the pathogenesis of obesity-related disorders are increasingly recognized.
Animals models of obesity connect an altered microbiota composition to the development of obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes in the host through several mechanisms: increased energy harvest from the diet, altered fatty acid metabolism and composition in adipose tissue and liver."
