"The Highway of Death (Arabic: طريق الموت‎ ṭarīq al-mawt) refers to a six-lane highway between Kuwait and Iraq, officially known as Highway 80. It runs from Kuwait City to the border town of Safwan in Iraq and then on to the Iraqi city of Basra. The road had been used by Iraqi armored divisions for the 1990 Invasion of Kuwait. The road was repaired after the Persian Gulf War and used by U.S. and British forces in the initial stages of the 2003 invasion of Iraq"

"Lovelace was deeply intrigued by Babbage’s plans for a tremendously complicated device he called the Analytical Engine, which was to combine the array of adding gears of his earlier Difference Engine with an elaborate punchcard operating system. It was never built, but the design had all the essential elements of a modern computer.

In 1842 Lovelace translated a short article describing the Analytical Engine by the italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea, for publication in England. Babbage asked her to expand the article, “as she understood the machine so well”. The final article is over three times the length of the original and contains several early ‘computer programs,’ as well as strikingly prescient observations on the potential uses of the machine, including the manipulation of symbols and creation of music. Although Babbage and his assistants had sketched out programs for his engine before, Lovelace’s are the most elaborate and complete, and the first to be published; so she is often referred to as “the first computer programmer”. Great website about the history of women's (and sometimes men's) undergarment's. Women choose to wear these, it gives them a better posture and of course women once believed it helped them lose weight, gave them a bigger bust permanently instead of temporally. Just like wearing clothes, or shoes.

 "At the outset, we must admit that this site is not a work of scholarship, simply a collection of memories and facts gleaned from material of the period, both garments and catalogues. There are few references and although we own many of the pictures, some are obviously internet sourced and may or may not be protected by copyright. We have never made any money from this site; in fact it is quite expensive to maintain but it is a labour of love. In fact, we have used the collection of corsets to construct calendars with the garments modelled by willing volunteers. All monies received from these calendars have been given to charities chosen by the models.

For many years my husband and I researched and added to an inherited collection, the articles from which form this basis of this web site. The original idea was to publish the fascinating history of Spirella and the corsetieres who worked for this company before knowledge of the era became lost forever. However, the idea of compiling a small book that would almost certainly never be published was overtaken by the advent of the Internet. Definitely not of the Internet generation, our introduction to this new medium was slow and painful, but ultimately so worth while.

We found many sites dedicated to foundation garments. Their professional approach to the subject and their layout left us acutely aware of our limited abilities to create a web site. It was simply the unexpected discovery of Microsoft's Front Page that allowed us to start building this site. 

As the compilation of this web site progressed, we began to realise how little we knew about this fascinating era. What I believed was my 'in-depth' knowledge was very much based on the experiences of somebody who has lived in Britain and Holland. These experiences differ in detail from the American experience and I am always grateful to correspondents who correct me when my assumptions from the east of the Atlantic contradict those from the west.

"Da Vinci's Demons is an American historical fantasy drama series, produced in Great Britain that presents a fictional account of Leonardo da Vinci's early life. The series was conceived by David S. Goyer and stars Tom Riley in the title role. It is developed and produced in collaboration with BBC worldwide and is shot on location in Wales. The series has been distributed to over 120 countries.
The show follows Leonardo as he is implicated in the political schemes of the Medici and Pazzi family and their differing relationships with the Catholic Church. These events occur alongside Leonardo's quest to obtain the Book of Leaves as he finds himself entangled with a cult known as the Sons of Mithras.

The series premiered in the United States on Starz in April 12, 2013 and was renewed for a second season which debuted March 22, 2014. The series has been generally well received by critics, and has won two Primetime Emmy Awards from three nominations."

Story of America Cards

"Story of America Cards by Grolier (Also known sometimes as Life in America cards) were
released by subsciption only from 1994 to 2001.  The cards were delivered to buyers in
"decks" sent monthly through the mail.  The buyer could then remit payment which would
continue the subscription.  These cards were never sold as a complete set and only by
subscribing sometime between 1994 and 2001 could you accumulate some or all of these
cards.  The cards measure 4.25 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) and they are printed on glossy card
stock in full color (some pictures are naturally in black and white since many cards show
older events and people).  The cards are printed in the USA and were released by Grolier,
Inc and they are in English.

There are 130 "decks" or "packets" of cards in the Grolier Story of America card set, with
20 cards per deck for a total of 2,600 cards.  The cards cover all aspects of US history
including War, Politics, Sports and Entertainment, Events, famous places and much, much
more.  The cards are all numbered on the back by Deck number and Card number ddd-cc
(ddd= Deck number 1 to 139 and cc = Card number 1 to 20), so cards go from 1-1 to 139-20.
 Each box holds about 500 cards to a complete set usually takes 5 to 6 boxes.

Deck numbers run from 1-102, then were lettered A-F for 6 decks, and
resumed at 119 and ran to 139 (there are no decks numbers 103 to 118)"
